Copernicus Thematic Workshop: Energy
17 March 2023 | 9:30 - 17:00
The next event in the Copernicus Thematic Workshop series is planned for March 17 2023 (full day), on the topic of Energy. The workshop will be held in hybrid format: online on the event platform and in the auditorium in the Breydel building (Av. d'Auderghem 45), Brussels, for the onsite part.
Delivering secure, sustainable, and affordable energy for citizens and businesses is a cornerstone of the European Green Deal, with the increase of energy efficiency and the move to renewable sources to reduce emissions. Investments in the European Union in energy transition and infrastructure as well as in energy system integration are part of the solutions, amongst others, to enhance energy security. The REPowerEU plan of the European Commission illustrates further the strategic importance of energy provision within the current geo-political setting. Over the past years Copernicus has been providing an unprecedented amount of environmental data that covers the entire globe. Copernicus data is already being used operationally in the wind and solar power industry and other opportunities are unfolding for European electricity transmission system operators and other key actors in the energy sector at national and European level.
The sessions of the workshop are:
Welcome and policy context
Session 1: Renewable energy production: planning, operations and investments
Session 2: Energy transmission and distribution in Europe (including energy security)
Session 3: Energy efficiency, emissions and environmental impact
For each session, speakers from key European or international entities will set the scene before opening on a panel discussion about how to maximize use of Copernicus data for the benefit of public and private users in the energy sector. The panels will also identify currently outstanding needs and requirements, which can inform the future development of Copernicus.
Registration is open till 14 March.
