The Galileo Masters, formerly known as the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC), is an international competition for projects with innovative ideas focused on the exploitation of the Global Satellite Navigation Systems (GNSS). Since 2004, the competition has been organized by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO).

Regional challenges are hosted by local partners from all over the world and Special prizes are awarded by a broad range of GNSS stakeholders. The overall winner is selected among all the regional and special prize winners by an international panel of experts. The prize pool of the competition is worth a total about 1 million EUR, which includes business incubation, patent consulting, testing and marketing support, access to customer markets, and cash prizes.

GNSS is an enabling technology used in many different market segments. The European GNSS Agency promotes the development of applications that create demand for EGNOS and Galileo while providing economic and social benefits. Now it is time to fully exploit the potential of applications based on EGNSS. We are looking for innovative ideas for satellite navigation applications that will also reply to the users’ requirements. We will rank the ideas based on the following criteria:

  • Technical / operational feasibility, maturity of the idea
  • Benefits / market potential
  • Innovation compared to current solutions
  • Usage of EGNSS signals and services
  • Contribution to EGNOS and Galileo adoption
  • Demonstrations/Market trials for technology validation
  • Business potential demonstrated by business model(s)

The Top 12 Galileo Masters winners will be invited to an exclusive Bootcamp, which will take place before the Awards Ceremony. During this Bootcamp and with the support of proven technical and business experts, the Galileo Incubation nominates the Top six candidates, who receive incubation and acceleration prize packages worth up to EUR 62,000 each. These six winners will be awarded during the Awards Ceremony. The incubation prizes are co-funded by up to 70% by EC.
