GRIMASSE
General aviation Rescue capacity Improvement for the worldwide Adoption of a Safe Solution based on European GNSS

Background & Objectives

The GRIMASSE project proposes an operational concept based on anchoring the Galileo SAR service in the SWIM information sharing concept implemented all around the world and in Europe in particular as SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research). The main objectives of the project are:

  1. To improve the SAR detection and response to general aviation distress, through the integration of new features into the beacon for General Aviation, in terms of cost optimization, user-friendly aspects, integration of Galileo and EGNOS reception for improved encoded localization performance and reliability, and in-flight triggering capabilities
  2. To optimize the responsiveness of RCCs towards the distress situations affecting aircrafts
  3. To adapt the MCCs and MEOLUT to the data distribution of ELT-DT SAR alerts and specific accommodation of beacon inside general aviation airplanes and helicopters affecting the transmission performances.
