EUSPA and EASA join hands to bring instrument flying to general aviation with EGNOS

Small EU aerodromes and airfields used for recreational aviation can rely on EGNOS to become safer and more accessible. EUSPA, EASA, and the aviation industry joint effort yielded a second publication offering Safety Assessment Guidelines to General Aviation operators.
You can now download the Safety Assessment Guidelines for the implementation of EGNOS-based instrument approaches to non-instrument runways located at aerodromes serving General Aviation.

The new pioneering service of Galileo will pave the way towards robust Position, Velocity and Time information (PVT) for the Galileo Open Service users. An OSNMA Public Observation Test Phase will follow the publication of the Info Note.
Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) is a data authentication function for the Galileo Open Service worldwide users, freely accessible to all.

EUSPA landed in Madrid for World ATM Congress to highlight environmental benefits of EU Space technology to aviation

World ATM Congress, the world’s largest international air traffic management (ATM) exhibition and conference, is always the place to be for EUSPA. Aviation experts and market development professionals were present to voice the importance of the EU Space Programme in aviation and its contribution to making the industry more sustainable. Drone demos by #MyGalileoDrone winners took place at Cuatro Vientos Airport.
The contribution of space to green and safe flight operations was a key theme at WATM 2021.

The EGNOS ground segment in Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain and Ciampino, Italy is currently undergoing an important upgrade to ensure further robustness and integrity of the services to the users of Europe’s Satellite-Based-Augmentation System (SBAS).
EGNOS is present across many sectors but it is a real game changer in aviation, offering smoother glide paths and reduced emissions among others.

#myEUSpace competition aims for solutions that look after our planet

Two out of the six challenges included in the #myEUSpace competition are targeting solutions that will power Europe’s efforts to become climate neutral by 2050.
The objective of the competition is to support the development of innovative commercial solutions that are leveraging EU Space data from Galileo and/or Copernicus.

FLAMINGO spreads its wings

The FLAMINGO project, partly funded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), developed the infrastructure, solutions, and services needed to enable the use of highly accurate and precise GNSS within the mass-market, particularly using smartphones and IoT devices. The project, which ended last May, delivered a successful solution that is now taking wings.
FLAMINGO created first-generation products that the early adopters are beginning to investigate.

Making Europe fit for the Digital Age with the European Connectivity Initiative

Complementing Copernicus, Galileo, EGNOS, and the forthcoming GOVSATCOM, this new EU flagship programme, will benefit a broad range of sectors, including road and maritime transport, air traffic and control, autonomous vehicle development as well Internet of Things (IoT). It will also open up more opportunities for synergies between the already existing components of the EU Space Programme that can benefit maritime surveillance or even space situational awareness.
The Secure Connectivity Initiative will provide secure communication services to the EU and its Member States as well as broadband connectivity for European citizens, private companies and governmental authorities.

The European Union Agency for the Space Programme, EUSPA, is launched today marking the start of a new era for EU Space. Building on the legacy of the European GNSS Agency, EUSPA will take on more responsibilities to create even more opportunities from Space for EU citizens and its economy.

Now open: new call for proposal to accelerate EGNOS adoption in transport

The European GNSS Agency (GSA) has launched a new Call for Proposals for the “Acceleration of EGNOS Adoption in Transport”. The objective of the Call is to foster EGNOS uptake in the European aviation, maritime, inland waterways and railway sectors. The deadline for submissions is 19 July 2021. MyGalileoSolution & MyGalileoDrone: A word from the winners

The winners of the MyGalileoSolution & MyGalileoDrone were announced at Entrepreneurship Day, organised by the GSA in March 2021 to promote EGNSS-based creativity and business opportunities. The goal was also to raise awareness of the role of downstream space in achieving the EU’s common goals. The winners spoke about their experience during the competition and how it was helping to take their ideas to the next level.
