SHERPA
Support ad-Hoc to Eastern Region with Pre-operational Actions on GNSS

Background & Objectives

Implementation of approach procedures with vertical guidance (APV) (Baro-VNAV and/or SBAS) for all instrument runway ends, either as the primary approach or as a back-up for precision approaches by 2016 with intermediate milestones as follows: 30 per cent by 2010, 70 per cent by 2014.

Why this project is important for EGNOS/GSA/SatNav?

SHERPA proposes a regional collaborative approach to support European Eastern countries as they move towards the implementation of GNSS enabled operations, and specifically those enhanced by EGNOS.

Objectives

  • To support Eastern and Central European countries through the set-up of regional working groups and workshops to understand the pre-operational actions to be undertaken by their relevant stakeholders (ANSPs, regulators and airlines) to support EGNOS adoption.
  • Map the implementation of EGNOS into the States' PBN strategy.

How does it work?

SHERPA represents an important asset in supporting the implementation of APV procedures in Europe, by contributing to a common strategy towards the implementation of EGNOS operations in the aviation community.
