This tool integrates various geospatial data to optimize site selection and deployment strategies, considering environmental, technical (e.g. energy potential/demand) and regulatory factors.
The demonstrator is a web-based and easy-to-use spatial planning tool for site selection of renewable energy (RE) projects and energy potential estimation leveraging Copernicus data from CLMS, C3S, CAMS,CMEMS complemented by local and other ancillary data.
- Allows Energy potential estimation,Multi-criteria analysis and Geospatial Operations.
- Based on industrially accepted open-source frameworks.
The Copernicus Green Energy demonstrator helps both private and governmental energy stakeholders to identify suitable areas for RE projects to maximize efficiency, minimize environmental impacts and ensure long term sustainability and regulatory compliance.
- Enables reduction in permitting delays (faster environmental assessments);
- Data-driven site selection minimizes investment risks;
- Cost savings by avoiding non-viable sites;
- Optimises siting and deployment and potential Return On Investment (ROI).
Various energy stakeholders from both the private and governmental sectors actively participated in the collection of user requirements, as well as in the testing and validation of the tool including:
- Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG) (Portugal);
- Madeira Energy Directorate;
- Greenvolt – Energias Renováveis S.A. (Global); and
- Ministry of Environment of Slovak Republic.
