Galileo Satellites
Galileo first generation satellites are designed for an at least 12-years operational lifetime in orbit.
IOV satellites launch mass was around 700 kg. The launch mass of FOC satellites was around 730 kg.
With their solar panels fully unfolded, the satellites are around 15 meters wide.
Galileo is the only GNSS to provide a Search and Rescue Return Link Service (SAR RLS).
There are over 4 billion Galileo enabled devices in use.
Galileo provides the High Accuracy Service with sub-meter level positioning accuracy, with horizontal error below 25 cm (Galileo only mode) and below 15 cm (Galileo and GPS mode).
As of mid-2025, there are 27 operational Galileo satellites in orbit.
Galileo is the first GNSS to provide a global open access authentication service, OSNMA.
