Make it with Space – New scheme opened to bridge the gap between supply and demand
EUSPA is a strong supporter of the EU Space downstream market, having invested heavily in the development of space-based solutions that use the data and services provided by the EU Space Programme.
It is now time to translate this investment into widespread commercialisation and adoption. Through its Make it with Space procurement opportunity, EUSPA aims to put the commercialisation of EU Space solutions into overdrive.
“Whether it’s because they underestimate the potential or are simply not aware of the benefits, many sectors remain reluctant to integrate space-based solutions into their operations,” says EUSPA Executive Director Rodrigo da Costa. “As a result, technologically mature solutions get stuck in the ‘last mile’ to commercialisation.”
Helping these solutions get across the finish line is ‘Make it with Space’, a new procurement opportunity that bridges the gap between innovation and commercialisation.
“Through the procurement of services and supplies from downstream market providers, we aim to create a more mature and consolidated demand for EU Space solutions,” adds Fiammetta Diani, EUSPA Head of MDI Department.
New opportunities, new end users
The EUSPA-organised procurement is in line with the European Commission’s vision for the European Space Economy, which looks to help those users purchasing space data and services and EU downstream space companies in the final stage of commercialisation. The procurement also complements other funding initiatives aimed at growing the downstream market, including CASSINI, Fundamental Elements and Horizon Europe.
“With this procurement, we aim to foster commercialisation of EU Space, building on solutions developed by our industry, including SMEs and startups, and bringing them to final users ,” confirms Diani.
EUSPA also plans to use the procurement to collect best practices and guidelines on successfully deploying EU Space solutions in the operational environment. This information will be made available to downstream providers, end users and other stakeholders.
