Submission deadline for Horizon 2020 call soon!

The submission deadline for the first call for Applications in Satellite Navigation- Galileo under the European Commission’s new Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme is only a few weeks away. Proposals must be submitted by 3 April 2014. Are you ready?

The first call for Horizon 2020 on Applications in Satellite Navigation was launched on 11 December 2013 with a deadline for proposal submission of 17:00 (Brussels time) on Thursday 3 April 2014.

EU space research is identified by Horizon 2020 as one of Europe's 'key industrial technologies' highlighting its potential for EU innovation and competitiveness and is supported under the Horizon 2020 heading "Industrial Leadership".

The Call “Applications in Satellite Navigation – Galileo” 2014 included four topic areas:

• EGNSS applications (Galileo – 1- 2014)
• Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) based EGNSS applications (Galileo-2-2014)
• Releasing the potential of EGNSS applications through international cooperation (Galileo-3-2014)
• EGNSS awareness raising, capacity building and/ or promotion activities, inside or outside of the European Union (Galileo-4-2014).

Project preparation

Selecting appropriate and relevant project partners is an essential first step for preparing your project. The search for partners can be facilitated by Horizon 2020 National Contact Points or via the Cordis EU Research partners site.

Planning is also very important and your proposal will need a clear plan of the work involved in the project such as individual work packages, deliverables and milestones. It is essential that you read the requirements for the technical annex for the call topic, in which the proposed work has to be described in detail, and also read carefully the evaluation criteria of the call or topic. Depending on the call additional annexes or supporting documents may be required, such as a project consortium description etc.

Please check the required budget table included in the administrative forms of the proposal, which is specific for the given type of action.

Electronic Submission

Project proposals can only be accepted using the electronic submission system of the Horizon 2020 Participant Portal. Access to the electronic submission system is available after selecting a topic and a type of call action.

The submission system includes an online, user-friendly wizard that guides you step-by-step through the preparation of your proposal. However, it is essential that after choosing your selected call and the relevant topic you carefully read the related documents or templates that are available on the given call and topic page.

The call page will include the latest information and updates to the call, the key documents for preparing your proposal that includes both common documents for all topics and those specific to each topic, the access to the submission system, a list of support services and helpdesks, and a subscription to e-mail notifications about updates to this call.

The topic page will give a detailed description of the topic scope, expected impact of projects and its type of action, it will state any essential topic conditions including its eligibility and evaluation criteria, pdf-templates of the forms that you will have to complete in the electronic submission system, and allows access to the submission system itself.

Submit your proposal in 6 steps!

To be able to submit a proposal, you must first register on the Participant Portal for a European Commission Authentication Service (ECAS) account and all the beneficiaries (i.e. project partners) must be registered with a Participant Identification Code (PIC number) on the central Beneficiary Register of the Commission. Failure to do this will block the submission!

The system wizard will then take you through the submission process. First the project is pre-registered by the project coordinating organization. At this stage some basic information is required including the call title and topic, the type of action, title of the proposal and an optional short summary.

The consortium is then set up, access rights given to project partners (as required) and all the administrative forms for the proposal filled in. Proposal templates for the technical annexes can be uploaded once the admin is complete. These annexes will contain the details of your project and, when completed, must be uploaded as pdf documents.

These documents can be revised and refined up to the deadline as new submitted versions will overwrite previous versions, but once the deadline has passed no further corrections or re-submission is possible
