From Startup to Global Leader in Water Solutions

Since its foundation in 2006, EOMAP has offered commercial Earth observation solutions to commercial and governmental customers in the global water sector. Thanks to EUSPA via the CASSINI Initiative & strategic Horizon Europe Projects, EOMAP managed to scale rapidly. In early 2025, the SME’s reputation led to its merger with the global geo-data market leader Fugro. This move significantly increases EOMAP’s impact on global water solutions and highlights the critical role of EU support in fostering innovation and market success.

Empowering Water Management with Satellite Data

EOMAP’s core focus has always been on Earth observation (EO) for water applications, using satellite-derived data to support industries such as aquaculture, fisheries, and coastal management. The company’s expertise in water quality monitoring, bathymetry, and environmental mapping has made it an essential partner for governments, research institutions, and businesses worldwide.

However, scaling an EO company in a fast-paced environment requires both financial backing and market validation from key customers and partners. EUSPA's support in terms of funding, global visibility and credibility has greatly accelerated EOMAP's organic growth.

"EUSPA’s support has been instrumental in scaling up our capabilities. Thanks to the CASSINI Maritime Prize, we received €950,000. The funding and image gain enabled us to increase our team size and speed up our growth. It allowed us to serve more clients while advancing our technology," shared Dr. Eva Haas, Head of Strategic Accounts Europe at EOMAP.

EUSPA's support has particularly strengthened EOMAP's market access to the renewable energy and blue carbon sectors. The company is leading two large Horizon Europe projects: Blue-X (Blue Energy Offshore Installation Accelerator) and COASTS (Coastal Observation Advances leveraging Space Technology Services). This further strengthened the company’s technological leadership and market position, allowing it to deepen key relationships, including with Fugro, the world’s leading geo-data company. These collaborations provided EOMAP with the momentum needed for the next stage of its evolution.

A Strategic Acquisition for Global Impact

EOMAP’s growth story reached a major milestone in February 2025, when it was acquired by Fugro. This acquisition represents a win-win for both companies - Fugro gains a crucial space component to enhance its full value chain, while EOMAP gains access to Fugro’s global infrastructure and an extensive client base spanning 57 countries.

Through its Horizon project partnerships, also enabled by EUSPA, EOMAP had already demonstrated the reliability of its technology and the strength of its research-driven approach.

"Joining Fugro was a natural next step. EOMAP, now as part of Fugro, will have the full resources to scale our impact and reach new markets." said Eva Haas, Head of Strategic Accounts Europe at EOMAP.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Innovation and Expansion

The role of EUSPA in EOMAP’s journey - from an innovative SME to a key player in the EO industry - cannot be overstated. By supporting funding, market entry, commercialization, and visibility, EUSPA has further amplified the real-world impact.

EOMAP’s success story underscores the power of EUSPA in fostering innovation and scaling companies to leading positions. As it continues to grow within Fugro, EOMAP remains committed to advancing Earth observation technologies for a more sustainable and data-driven approach to water management.
