The European GNSS Agency (GSA), in collaboration with the Council of European Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE), has launched the Geomatics on the Move 2020 competition with the aim of fostering the use of EU satellite programmes Galileo, EGNOS and Copernicus among students, young professionals, entrepreneurs and small and mid-sized businesses (SMEs), to create innovative geomatics applications and solutions across all over Europe. GNSS.asia, a Horizon-2020 project of the European GNSS Agency (GSA) that aims to stimulate the creation of partnerships between GNSS industries in Europe and Asia, has announced the publication of its first Market and Technology Trends Report for the Asian market. Packed with key insights from GNSS.asia teams on the ground in Asia, this report, provided on quarterly basis, is a must read for companies looking to expand into Asian markets or to cooperate with Asian companies and institutions.

EGNOS procedures were launched at Vilnius Airport in Lithuania on 18 June 2020 as part of the EGNOS Lithuania project. Funded under the European GNSS Agency’s (GSA) Aviation Grant Programme, EGNOS Lithuania aims to implement 5 LPV approach procedures at the three biggest airports in Lithuania: Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.

The European Commission, with the support of the GSA, has launched a new project using EGNOS, the European satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS), with the aim of developing a tailored integrity concept for payment and liability critical applications in the road sector such as road tolling or pay-as-you-drive insurance in the 2025-2035 timeframe.

The European GNSS Agency (GSA), the operational agency of the European Commission for Galileo and EGNOS, is launching its MyGalileoDrone competition on July 17. This contest is targeting the design and development of drone-based applications or services, using a Galileo/EGNOS-enabled receiver, that address the EU’s key priorities such as the Green Deal, and support the EU Recovery Plan for Europe. Initial ideas should be submitted by 31 August. A wide participation from all Member States is expected.

The European GNSS Agency, operational arm of the European Commission for the EU Space Programme, is on the hunt for forward thinking graphic designers and visual artists from across the EU to craft its new EUSPA logo. Five finalists, one winner and up to €15k! Ready to break the mould? Proposals should be submitted by 14 August.

The evaluation of the submitted proposals is ongoing. Its estimated completion is foreseen by October 2020.

The GSA aims to help cities emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic by leveraging EGNSS (Galileo and EGNOS) and Copernicus synergies to make urban mobility more sustainable, as well as boost innovation and economic growth. To do this, the GSA is creating a network of cities that have decided to build better, more sustainable and efficient transport systems to support the recovery phase. With this in mind, a survey has been launched to understand the needs and develop tailored awareness-raising and support actions on space for cities. The Horizon 2020 Ariadna project will take this further with dedicated support to facilitate the use of space for sustainable cities and its integration into new urban mobility schemes.

Over 100 participants came together online on 18 June to discuss power-efficient positioning for the Internet of Things at a webinar organised by the European GNSS Agency (GSA). At the webinar, which featured input from innovation projects and major chipset manufacturers in the IoT domain, the European GNSS Agency (GSA) presented its recent White Paper on the topic.

At the 45th meeting of the European GNSS Agency’s (GSA) Administrative Board back in July 2016, Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of CNES, the French space agency, and France’s interministerial coordinator for European satellite navigation programmes, was elected as Chair.
