Save the date: Space for Innovation in Rail

The ‘Space for Innovation in Rail’ forum, to be held in Vienna, Austria on 18-19 March 2019, will be an opportunity to discuss innovation and digitalisation in the rail sector, with a special focus on GNSS applications for rail. The event, under the auspices of the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, is being jointly organised by the European GNSS Agency (GSA), Shift2rail Joint Undertaking (S2R JU), and the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA).
The event will be an opportunity to discuss innovative GNSS applications for the rail sector.

FCC approves use of Galileo in the U.S.

16 November 2018
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), at a meeting on November 15, granted in part a request from the European Commission for a waiver of the FCC rules so that devices in the United States may access specific signals transmitted from the Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System.
Consumers and industry in the U.S. will now be to access certain Galileo signals to be used in combination with GPS

GSA Rail report tracks user PNT requirements

A Report on Rail User Needs and Requirements, recently published by the European GNSS Agency (GSA), examines user needs and requirements for position, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions in the rail sector. These reports, which are an outcome of the first European GNSS User Consultation Platform (UCP), will help shape the discussion at the next UCP, to be held as part of European Space Week in Marseille on 3-4 December 2018.
The report looks at the current market and technology trends for GNSS in the rail sector.

Just published: First report series on User Needs and Requirements on Position, Navigation and Time

A first series of Reports on User Needs and Requirements on position, navigation and time has been published on the European GNSS Service Centre web portal in the section “GSA Publications”. The publication of this series paves the way to the 2018 edition of the User Consultation Platform to be held in Marseille on 3-4 December 2018 as part of European Space Week.

Enhanced UseGalileo site offers a more tailored experience

The enhanced UseGalileo site is another example of how the GSA is keeping the user at the centre of European GNSS.

GNSS: addressing the challenges of Arctic navigation

Participants in the Challenges in Arctic Navigation workshop in Olos, Muonio, Finland on April 16-18 discussed how GNSS can address some of the difficulties posed by navigation in the Arctic, in addition to how satellite navigation itself can be improved in the region, which is also a challenging environment for GNSS.

CEN approves CORE specification revision

To reflect the evolution in EGNOS service provision, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has approved and published a revision of the CWA 16390 specification for the CORE project (Consistently Optimised Resilient Secure Global Supply-Chains) - this technical specification covers the development of products and applications based on services provided by EGNOS.

Less than one year on from the launch of Galileo Initial Services (IS) in December 2016, the European GNSS Service Centre (GSC) near Madrid was the venue for the very first Galileo User Assembly jointly organised by the European Commission and the European GNSS Agency (GSA). During this highly successful gathering of the Galileo community, the European GNSS User Consultation Platform (UCP) was officially launched to provide an open forum for users to discuss their needs, share experiences and provide feedback on the performance of European GNSS (EGNSS).

Last chance to start your Space3ac adventure and apply for financial support

The latest recruitment drive for Space3ac, a three-month acceleration programme for start-ups using satellite technologies to create solutions for the intermodal transportation, oil and gas and insurance sectors, is set to end at midnight on Tuesday, 31 October. Interested start-ups with capabilities to solve problems provided by industry partners should “raise their hands” and register (by filling out a short form) on the programme’s website. The recruitment process will continue with interviews and meetings on 20-21 November.
